When we built Pixelreel, one of the most important decisions we made was giving videographers a choice in how they deliver their films. Not a workaround. Not a limitation. A genuine choice — because different studios work differently, and the platform should adapt to you.

Today, every film delivery on Pixelreel supports two modes: embed via YouTube or Vimeo, or direct upload to Pixelreel's servers. You can mix both in the same portal — feature film on Vimeo, ceremony and speeches uploaded directly. Each film row in your delivery is independent.

The Embed Option — YouTube & Vimeo

If you already have a Vimeo Pro account or upload your films to YouTube, the embed option requires no extra steps. Paste the URL, and Pixelreel wraps it in a branded cinematic portal — Wedding Theater, vendor credits, review collection, and all.

YouTube unlisted videos don't appear in search or on your public channel. When you're ready to share the film publicly, make it public with one click — now it's working for your studio's SEO. Vimeo's domain-restriction controls mean your film can be set to embed only on Pixelreel, nowhere else.

The embed option keeps your storage footprint on Pixelreel lean, and leverages the CDN infrastructure of the world's largest video platforms for fast global playback.

The Upload Option — Direct to Pixelreel

For films you want stored independently of any third-party platform, direct upload puts the file on Pixelreel's servers. Studio plans include 20 GB. Studio Pro includes 100 GB. A compressed 1080p wedding film typically runs 4–8 GB — enough room for several deliveries before you approach your limit.

Uploaded films play through an HTML5 video player inside the portal and Wedding Theater — the same cinematic experience, no YouTube or Vimeo account required.

The key advantage: an uploaded film stays live on Pixelreel's infrastructure regardless of what happens to your YouTube channel or Vimeo subscription. It's the right choice for studios who want film permanence to be a promise they can keep.

Which Should You Use?

Most studios will use a combination. A practical approach:

  • Feature film and highlight reel: Vimeo or YouTube. These are the films you want discoverable, shareable, and leveraging platform CDN for quality playback.
  • Ceremony, speeches, and reception: Direct upload. These are often too long for social, not posted publicly, and benefit from being stored independently.

There's no wrong answer. The platform supports both, and you can change your approach per delivery based on what makes sense for each couple.

What About Portal Access?

Portal access windows are 2 years on Studio and Pay Per Reel plans, and 5 years on Studio Pro. When expiry approaches, couples can extend access directly from their portal — or you can gift an extension from your dashboard. Lifetime access is available for a one-time $79 payment.

For embed-based portals, the portal shell stays live as long as the underlying video link is active. For uploaded films, the file lives on Pixelreel — making the extension and lifetime options a complete, independent solution.

The delivery experience should be worthy of the film. How you get the film there is up to you.
